Pumpkin Day
Troop 28 is a perennial participant in Glencoe’s Pumpkin Day festivities at Kalk Park in October. For many years, the Troop has used its Scoutcraft and rock-climbing expertise to erect and operate the “zip line,” a 75-foot cable and harness that carries young children through the air in an exciting ride across the south end of the park. The Scouts erect the zip line, check it for safety, spot the riders, and break the line down at the end of the day.
Scouting for Food
Each March, Troop 28 joins with the other Scout units in the Northeast Illinois Council in the Scouting for Food drive. On two consecutive Saturdays, the Troop distributes fliers and bags and then collects canned food donations for food pantries in the Chicago area.
Village Memorial Day
Troop 28 marches in the Village’s annual Memorial Day parade and participates in the ceremony of remembrance that follows.
